Rick Johnson Scholarship Donations

For forty-two years, the Cortona Studies Abroad Program has been a source of pride for the University of Georgia and the Lamar Dodd School of Art.  Since its inception, each Director has expanded the scope of the program and built on the strengths of his predecessor.  Today, the University is preeminent in studies abroad programs around the world but especially in Italy, thanks in no small part to the just-retired Director, Rick Johnson.  He has amplified not only the programs, but also the school’s outreach.  His love of teaching, of art, and of Cortona has touched students and faculty, visitors to the campus and, most certainly, the Cortonese. After forty years of teaching at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, five years as Director of the Cortona Studies Abroad program, he officially retired at the end of 2010.

Rick would be the first to tell you that the generosity of Lamar Dodd gave him the opportunity to go to Cortona which changed his life forever.  His following professional  life was  grounded on the highest of standards and an innate love of teaching. His success can be measured by the smiles of students, faculty, associates, and friends whenever his name is mentioned.

There is no better way to honor Rick’s legacy than with a donation to the Cortona scholarship in his name. The Cortona program made a life-changing difference to so many, possibly to you.  Just like Mr. Dodd, you can provide an opportunity for future students.
